From comments

Well, y'all are awesome, but I already knew that.

Thank you for the great feedback on Trent and Jason and The Mystery of the Golden Goddess!  I'm glad that everyone's having so much fun with them!

Okay, from comments, I got votes for Talin and Selorin to take their turns next in ITL.  And was it my imagination, or did Vade's name keep cropping up?

Talin and Selorin.  Let's compare.

(This is where I mention, just for the sake of clarity, that this is a conversation for fun because I like to hear what y'all think, but the plot of ITL is already settled, and it was decided long ago which book is next.  I don't want you to get all annoyed if you vote for Desin and The Green Book isn't next.)

We've seen Selorin with a string of boyfriends, but he reserves his deep relationships for family.  Still, playing the Maiden to Orinakin's Wanderer is no fun.  Now that Orinakin's a.) always away and b.) married, it makes sense for Selorin to move on and find someone of his own.

Talin has known great love (Anosanim) as well as great heartbreak and betrayal (Hitari).  He seems to think that he'll never know romance again, but I can't wait to prove him wrong.  In time, he'll heal and learn that his days of passion aren't all behind him.  Is now the moment?

What kinds of guys would be best for Selorin and Talin?  Ack, I can't answer.  All of my answers either give too much away, or are deliberately misleading and take my brain off on interesting tangents which lead to fun new worlds of cheerful sex adventures.  You tell me what you think about the kinds of guys Selorin and Talin should end up with.

Emmytie, I wish you all of the best in your job hunt!

  1. Hey Matthew! I really think that Selorin would be well suited with an Anorian, quite an intelligent person who he can have heated debates with, with a vary of topics. It would be good if they worked in law as well or have a common understanding of law.
(Obviously I'd be happy with whoever he ended up with!)
And I think Talin would be good with Vade!;) I think Vade's lightness would be so good for Talin, he'd bring out a lovely side to him, Talin would also have the patience to explain things to Vade. Especially after this weeks chapter! Oh. My. God! *THUD* But of course it's up to you and I am SO looking forward to see who these two will end up with and who's book it will be next! :) (You know maybe you should give us a hint ;) aha!)
    :)

  2. hmm, I still don't think Talin is quite ready and I really do think Selorin is. I've been relatively sure for quite awhile that you were leading up to a Selorin/Vade pairing even though I've never entirely been that in love with the idea of the 2 of them together. I have confidence in you that if that's where you're going you'll win me over to them as a couple. But, with the interaction between Vade and Talin in this week's chapter, I have to admit to seeing them together as more of a possibility than I've ever thought of before. Of course, I know you love to play these games with us, teasing us with possibilities, so I'm not convinced that's where you're going either. :)...
One thing I really hope for, which is separate from the actual story, is that this blog becomes more of a place where your fans have discussions about stuff like this. Mattboard activity has sort of petered off and I was never allowed to post there anyway, because you closed the board to membership requests due to spambots I think. But I loved reading the discussions that people used to have there. I keep thinking about all the squeeing that would've been happening over the hints you gave regarding Jekari/Banok & Adu/Behiko this week, and of course how much fierce debate there would be over Selorin/Vade vs. Talin/Vade.

  3. Hi Matthew! First I want to say, I love ITL. I wake up at 5 every Saturday morning to check whether or not it's up yet :P
I decided I had to put my two cents across on this subject. I love Talin, if I had to give my favourite brother it would have to be him. And I think after he seems to be ready for it now. It broke my heart to see what he through with Hitari. I'm so pleased to see that he seems to be healing and smiling again. I still think he needs a bit more laughter and fun in his life though, and I truly think that Vade can provide that for him. Vade is adorable, and a bit of a trouble maker, really inquisitive, friendly and gives the aura of happiness and love. I think that's exactly what Talin needs in his life. Then you have Talin who is patient, devoted, sensible, understanding and loves to top ;)I really believe he'd be perfect for Vade, he's be able to explain things Vade doesn't understand, and ground him. And after this weeks chapter and THAT kiss we can see just how well the fit each other (Hottest scene in the whole chapter in my opinion by the way) I would love to see Talin's book next, after all the heartbreak those twins have been through, they deserve some happiness. Anosanim will be happy (Bit of an understatement) if Talin is happy. And in my opinion, Talin needs to find love, be married and be happy before Anosanim can be. Anosanim would worry far too much about Talin if it were reversed.
I know the most popular opinion seems to be Selorin and Vade, but I've always seen them more as brothers than lovers. Selorin - to me - seems to be so close to Vade as he's by extension another way of spending time with Orinakin, and likewise with Vade and Bade. I love their friendship. But that's it for me. Selorin seems to get too easily irratated with Vade for his "ignorance" and Vade seems to think Selorin is a bit "High and mighty" I think the sex between them would be hot, but not love... I can only see Selorin with an Anorian. He needs someone to have the same views as him already, not learned views.
I'm sure I'll be more than happy with whatever you decide and who Talin and Selorin will end up with, and whatever colour book you write next. I just had to join in the conversation on this subject :o)

    1. I totally agree with you regarding Selorin & Vade's interaction up to this point. I have not seen enough respect between the 2 of them to make me confident in them as a love pairing. They just seem to enjoy picking at each other so much which is fun to watch but definitely gives more of a "sibling" dynamic than a couples dynamic IMO... on the other hand, Matthew's been known to pair people who aggravate each other in many ways before and made it work beautifully. Still, I'm very interested to see if anything further develops between Talin & Vade.

  4. So, if Selorin ISNT with Vade (which would be a horrific tragedy), does that mean Vade gets his own book? Because I really can't see him with any of the other brothers and you can't ignore Vade.

Thank you so much for wishing me well with the job hunt. I actually just started a new position on Monday. Other than that idiot feeling you get at a new job, it's going well. I'm especially happy because I wouldn't let myself read ITL until I got a job and oh baby am I excited about reading the second half of the Gold book.

  5. I am cheering for Selorin/Vade pairing, and until Matthew says otherwise, I will keep my hopes up :) I would like to see Talin's book next, I think he's definitely ready for some happiness in his life. My first thought was that he needs someone like Tano - a loyal Anorian - but then I don't just want a re-hash of the Gold Book :-p

  6. And in the newest chapter... nothing with Talin/Vade... but there was an extended Selorin/Vade interaction. It typifies what we've seen from the 2 of them so far and I didn't see anything specific to clue us in as to whether Matthew is going to pair them or not.

This quote was a good summary of their interaction, I thought:
“You’re smart and curious and thoughtful and honest, you’re kind and considerate and caring and generous, you’re fun and sexy and brave and selfless. That’s why we’re friends, that’s why I love you as much as I do and enjoy your company and let you hang around my office all day instead of kicking you out. But there are corners of your personality and areas of your brain you haven’t cleaned out recently, where old and unexamined ideas have collected, where you haven’t applied all of that smart, thoughtful curiosity. When you spout those notions and argue those points, you’re acting like an ignorant regressive asshole too caught up in tradition to think for yourself. You’re embarrassing yourself. I know that you’re better than that, I know that you’re more generous and thoughtful than that, and that’s why I push you to examine what you’re saying and reconsider those old ideas. If I didn’t think that you could learn and grow and change, I wouldn’t put so much energy into arguing with you.”

Right now, there's love and like between them, but their relationship is too unequal as far as power dynamic goes... Even though he was expressing what he likes about Vade, that whole speech came across as slightly condescending or something. I'm not trying to say anything negative about either Selorin or Vade but currently Vade doesn't make enough of a contribution to the relationship to even it out. Like with Orinikin & Bade - Orinikin challenges Bade and expands his experiences, thoughts & horizons but it's balanced off by Bade being a safe, emotional haven for Orinikin. I'm sure Vade has much to give in a relationship with Selorin (if it happens) but it hasn't really been revealed yet what it is he has to give that Selorin *needs*

On other subjects... I giggled with delight all the way through the role playing game during the orgy. And I loved Xio Voe's time with his siblings, and of course Kudorin had to gloat :)

  7. Hmmm....gosh well...I think the evidence so far has been pointing towards the whole Selorin/Vade pairing in terms of Vade with any of the siblings but I've never really been fully behind it. It seems just a bit two obvious to me - the other twin with the other twin...really? I think the point Amela made above is a really interesting one. I don't think that my mind had articulated it quite but I think that there definitely is a power imbalance. The sex would be hot but love? I just can't quite see it. Although the whole Xio Voe laughing at Selorin saying he wouldn't mistake love with friendship does make me wonder a lot.

I've never ever thought of Talin/Vade before but now its been mentioned I can kind of see it. I mean, Talin likes to dominate in bed too right? But still not really convinced with Vade/8S at all but I love him so much I want to see his romance <3

As for the next book I'd love to see Talin. Or at least more focus on his development. I think Talin is my fave character (aside from Bade/Orinakin) and I'd really like to see more coming from that conversation that happened a while back, where Kudorin and Talin were talking and Talin thought that if he wasn't grumpy/negative then there wouldn't be anything to distinguish him from the rest of his brothers. As much as I would like to see a relationship though, I'm not sure whether he is quite ready?

Who knows, I'm sure I will enjoy it whatever happens. And I also second Amela's point about wanting somewhere to chat. I've only recently started reading ITL and I need someone to squee with and talk about it with. I couldn't find a way to log onto the message boards and there doesn't seem to be much action on there anyway.

But yeah - ITL <3 whatever you do

  8. I love Selorin, Vade, and Talin all wonderfully. But I don't think S or T is any good for Vade. it just seems a little bit like a cliche/scapegoat to me. I would much rather see three new amazing characters for each of them. I love reading about new people, and having them discover their feelings about S/V/T in a fresh, new, way.

Anyway, S should be with an Anorian. Someone who does not feel the need to leave Anoria, for any reason. I think he should be shy and not as out going as Selorin ( but those are hard qualities to find in an anorian). I'm just putting things out there, i don't really know what Selorin needs in a husband but I can't wait to meet him :D. I also don't think we have seen so much of him to feel like he is at a precipice; i don't know if he is ready to move on.

T should end up with a foreigner. An artist of some kind, and someone who understands his relationship with A and will embrace it.

    I'm so excited!

  9. Adding on - I loved yesterdays update (I was late for orchestra this morning from reading it!) Looks like we might be getting Talin's story. At least I hope so! I'm really looking forward to getting to know what Lord Mirotam's accident was - I imagine something that has left him quite physically scarred, which would explain why most of his face was hidden.

Its quite interesting because just the other day I was thinking that Talin needs someone just a wee bit broken who he can help to 'fix' so to speak and be helped to heal further himself. And yeah...Can't wait until next week dammit!
